MTC Gancanagh

The MTC Gancanagh is a single-day ultramarathon forming Day 9 of the fourteen-day MTC MizMal® End to End series. The route follows the MizMal® corridor and runs from the Woodfield Hotel, Clifden, County Galway to the Westport Woods Hotel & Spa, covering approximately 52 miles (total listed as 52.4 miles).

Entry is limited to 20 standalone competitors, with an additional allowance of 20 MizMal® entrants for a maximum of 40 runners. The event enforces preset cut-off points based on a minimum average pace of 4.0 miles per hour; competitors who fall below this threshold may be withdrawn. The race is cup-free and entrants should bring a reusable cup.

Competitors must be aged 20 or over on the start day and carry mandatory kit, including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. Organisers provide a tracking device with an SOS function; maps and GPX files are supplied to entrants before the event. Example checkpoint food items include malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water.

Fees are non-refundable; the standard entry fee and a race package option with an embroidered shirt and lightweight hi-viz jacket are offered.
