Event details

The MTC Boggart is a single-day ultra run scheduled for 10 July 2029. The course distance is approximately 38 miles with about 2,238 ft of ascent and 1,427 ft of descent. This is the first edition and it also serves as Day 1 of the MTC ALBION, a thirteen-day end-to-end series across England. All finishers receive a bespoke Boggart medal; male and female champions receive trophies.

Route, checkpoints and support

The route follows the same course used by the organiser’s MTC JOGLE event but with reduced daily distance. The event starts at the Gretna Chase Hotel, Gretna Green, and finishes at the Kings Arms Hotel, Penrith. Checkpoints are placed on the route, for example: CP1 at about 9.6 miles (St Nicholas Arms, Carlisle), CP2 at about 17.9 miles (A6, Carlisle) and CP3 at about 28.4 miles (A6, Penrith). Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants about four weeks before the race. The organiser issues competitor tracking devices with SOS capability.

Entry, kit and rules

Entry is limited to 20 race-only competitors, with an additional allowance of 20 ALBION competitors (maximum 40). Entrants must be 20 years or over on the start day. The race is cup-free; competitors must carry a reusable cup. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. The organiser enforces minimum average progress of 4.0 mph; competitors falling below this limit may be withdrawn. Entry fees and refund terms are stated by the organiser.
