MTC Boggart : race overview

The MTC Boggart is a single-day ultra covering 37.6 miles on a route that starts at the Gretna Chase Hotel, Gretna Green, and finishes at the Kings Arms Hotel, Penrith. It is Day 1 of the MTC ALBION thirteen day end to end of England and forms part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series. The course largely follows the same route used by the organiser's MTC JOGLE event but with reduced daily distances.

Entries are limited to 20 competitors plus an additional allowance of 20 for ALBION entrants, giving a maximum field of 40. This edition is listed as the event's first. The route total ascent is 2,238 ft and total descent is 1,427 ft.

Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps supplied by the organiser, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. Competitors are supplied with a tracking device with an SOS function and maps/GPX files are issued to entrants four weeks before the race.

The race enforces a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; falling below this threshold can result in withdrawal. The event is cup free so competitors must provide a reusable cup. All finishers receive a Boggart medal and male and female champions receive bespoke trophies. Entry options and fees are published; deposits and payments are non refundable unless covered by an optional personal cancellation insurance policy.
