Mt. Tom Trail Race

The Mt. Tom Trail Race is a late-October trail event held at Bray Lake within the DCR Mt. Tom State Park. The courses run entirely on rugged single-track hiking trails and pass through areas of peak foliage and scenic viewpoints.

Distances offered include:

  • 25k solo, about 13.5 miles, with 3,300 feet of climbing.
  • 25k two person relay, legs split roughly 7.4 miles and 6.1 miles.
  • 10k solo with about 1,400 feet of climbing.
  • 5k fun run or hike with about 600 feet of climbing.

Aid stations are provided at minimum every five miles, with communications between aid stations and the Bray Lake race base. The relay exchange zone is at the upper pavilion Lookout Aid Station; relay teams are responsible for transporting themselves to and from this area because no race shuttle is provided. Parking at Bray Lake is limited and carpooling is encouraged.

There is a six-hour overall cut-off for the 25k with intermediary cut-offs along the course; early starts are accommodated on request but volunteers will not be in place for those early starts. Medical support is planned at Bray Lake with EMT crews and aid station communications. Organizers note variable fall conditions including mud, ice, slick rocks, or humid weather. Funds are available upon request to help cover entry costs when resources allow. Prizes and age-group awards are planned for solo and relay divisions, and athletes with disabilities are welcome under established AWD guidelines.
