Mt. Tom Trail Race
The Mt. Tom Trail Race is a fall trail running event held within Mt. Tom State Park with start and finish at Bray Lake. The event offers multiple course options and supports the Kestrel Land Trust; proceeds fund local land and trail projects and public access improvements.
Distances offered:
- 25k solo about 13.5 miles, 3,300 feet climbing.
- 25k 2-person relay legs of about 7.4 miles and 6.1 miles, climbing split.
- 10k solo about 1,400 feet climbing.
- 5k fun run/hike about 600 feet climbing.
The course runs entirely on rugged single-track hiking trails. Course maps and .gpx files are provided in a shared folder. Aid stations are located at least every five miles. The relay exchange is at the upper pavilion Lookout Aid Station; relay teams are responsible for their own transportation to and from that location as there is no race shuttle. The race provides basic hydration and food options including water, energy drink, soda, and standard race snacks; hot soup may be available in colder conditions.
Medical coverage includes EMT crews at Bray Lake and communications between aid stations and the start/finish. Weather and trail conditions can vary in late fall and rocks may be slippery. The 25k has intermediary cutoffs so solo runners must finish within a six hour overall limit. Entry fees are published for the prior year and financial assistance for entry fees is available on request. Prizes are awarded in solo and relay categories and for selected special achievements. Volunteers support aid stations and course operations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
