Mrs. McCormick's Ice House
Mrs. McCormick's Ice House is a winter trail running event located at Ontario County Park (OCP) at Gannett Hill. This race is the second installment of the Common Ground Winter Trail Series and is scheduled for January 16, 2027. The event pays homage to Nancy McAdam McCormick, a 19th-century business owner who managed an ice harvesting business in the Canandaigua area.
The race is held on a 4 mile loop course that traverses various sections of the park while avoiding areas prone to deep snow drifts. Participants can choose to complete the loop multiple times:
- 4 miles (1 loop)
- 8 miles (2 loops)
- 12 miles (3 loops)
The 2027 edition introduces a snowshoe race to open the event, though this is dependent on weather conditions. In the event of insufficient snow for snowshoeing, participants typically transition to the running options. The organizers advise athletes to bring footwear with aggressive tread, traction devices such as microspikes, or gaiters, as the course frequently features snow and ice.
Race headquarters are located at Wilson Lodge, which serves as the site for check-in and post-race activities. The facility offers real restrooms for changing, a heated interior, and a fireplace. After the event, participants can access various refreshments including buckwheat pancakes with local maple syrup, chai lattes, hot chocolate, and apple cider. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
