Swain Mountain Race

The Swain Mountain Race is a mountain and trail running event held at the Swain Ski Resort. The course covers a distance of approximately 6.8 miles and takes place on the ski slopes. Participants encounter significant elevation changes throughout the event, with nearly 2500 feet of total elevation gain.

The race follows a two-loop format. The first loop is approximately 1.8 miles and climbs Mile Sweep. The second loop covers approximately 4.8 miles and includes some of the resort's most difficult ascents, specifically focusing on the Clark and Upper Robinson trails. One specific segment, the Robinson Climb, spans roughly 0.35 miles with an average grade of 25% and over 500 feet of vertical gain.

This event serves as the 2026 USATF Niagara Open and Masters Mountain Association Championships. It is also part of the 2026 USATF Niagara Runner Of The Year Series and Team Grand Prix Series. Because of these official designations, the use of hiking poles is prohibited. Awards are available for overall winners, masters categories, and various age groups ranging from 19 and under to 60 and over.

The course features timed segments with split mats at the bottom and top of the Robinson Climb. Incentives are offered for both the fastest and slowest recorded times on this climb, as well as the fastest descent from the top of Upper Robinson to the finish line. Following the race, the event includes food and drinks at the resort. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
