Mossyrock Independence 5K & 8K

The Mossyrock Independence event offers two distances for participants to run or walk.

  • 5K
  • 8K Hill Challenge

The course winds through trails on Tacoma Power property near Mossyrock Park and crosses the Mossyrock Dam, providing views of Riffe Lake. Participants will walk across the dam, start on the far side, and return across it as part of the route. The 8K includes a hill section that descends to the bottom of the dam and returns uphill before the remainder of the course. Both distances include a short cross-country component and contain gravel and a small grass section.

Entry fees are listed by age: adults $30, youths 12 to 17 $25, and children 11 and under free. Family pricing allows additional youth entries for free after registering two adults and two youths; free youth entries do not include complimentary event shirts. Partial refunds of 75% are available until June 13; refunds are not available after that date.

Dogs and bicycles are not allowed on the course; service dogs are exempt. Strollers are permitted, with large-wheel strollers recommended for gravel and grass sections. Only registered participants are allowed on the dam, and only during their run or walk.

The event is organized by the Mossyrock Area Action League in partnership with Arbor Health. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
