Mossyrock Independence 5K & 8K

Participants choose between two distances and may run or walk. The event route runs on Tacoma Power property near Mossyrock Park and includes a crossing of the Mossyrock Dam with views of Riffe Lake.

The dam crossing is part of the course layout: participants will walk across the dam, start on the far side, and return across it during the event. The longer distance includes a hill challenge that descends to the bottom of the dam and returns uphill before the course is completed. Both distances include a short cross-country component on trails and unpaved sections.

Entry fees are published as follows: Adults $32.50; youth ages 12 to 17 $25; children 11 and under free. Registration is noted as opening soon. Special family pricing is offered for certain adult-and-youth combinations; additional youth entries may be entered at no charge but will not receive a complimentary T-shirt unless purchased separately.

The organizer offers partial refunds (75%) through June 13; no refunds are available after that date. Course rules specify that dogs and bicycles are not allowed on the course except for service dogs. Strollers are permitted; large-wheel strollers are recommended because of gravel and a short grassy section. Only registered participants are allowed on the dam and only during their run or walk.

This is a Mossyrock Area Action League event in partnership with Arbor Health. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
