Backcountry Rise takes place in the Mt. St. Helens backcountry near Toutle, WA, staging at the Mt.

St. Helens Science & Learning Center above Coldwater Lake. The event features three remote trail distances: 50K, 20 Miler, and Half Marathon, all within the Mt.

Margaret Backcountry of the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. Runners encounter big climbs, sweeping descents, rugged singletrack, alpine lakes, creeks, and wildlife with dramatic ridge views of Cascade volcanoes.

The course is remote and exposed; gear and prior trail experience are required for the longer distances. In 2025, an alternate course will be used due to road closure. Proceeds benefit Mt.
