The loop includes Monkey Butt Hill, a steep hill with 100 feet of climbing over about 0.1 miles. The course is run counter-clockwise, so the climb up the hill is the steep section, while the descent is more gradual.

The goal is to complete as many loops as possible within the chosen time limit.

The event starts at the Juniper Point Trailhead near Gordonville, Texas. Crew access and spectator areas are available very close to the course, with a setup point approximately every one-third mile.
