Registration opens January 1, 2026, and the initial 85 entries are added automatically, with additional signups placed on a waitlist. Past participants in Mid-State and the Tennessee Mile are prioritized in early selections; the organizer may also reserve some spots at their discretion. No pets are allowed on the property.

Course, format and rules

The course, called The Murder Mile, is on private land about 20 minutes from downtown Franklin. Each loop has about 340 feet of elevation gain, includes two climbs, fast runnable sections between them, and an easy downhill through a field to the start/finish. The surface is an old logging road with wide double-track.

Runners must be in the starting corral and take two steps past the starting line to begin each loop. Participants have 20 minutes to complete each loop; runners who return after the time limit are eliminated. No runner may accept aid while on the course. If two runners reach the final loop, the declared winner must start and complete a solo victory lap within the 20-minute limit; if the last runner cannot complete that loop in time, there will be no winner. Spectators must follow event rules. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
