Long Hunter Trail Runs - GTE

Long Hunter Trail Runs is a series of trail races held inside Long Hunter State Park, a few miles outside the Nashville city limits. The races circumnavigate Couchville Lake, include an out-and-back on the Bryant Grove Trail, and incorporate the Cliff Trail loop.

Distances and key limits:

  • Half Marathon: 450 ft climbing; 8 hour official finish
  • Marathon: 850 ft climbing; 8 hour official finish
  • 50 KM: 1,100 ft climbing; 8 hour official finish

The course combines natural singletrack and multiuse paved trail/asphalt. The two mile paved greenway around Couchville Lake is the main paved section, and other non-dirt surfaces are the park roads that connect trails. Trails are described as relatively flat and only mildly technical; road shoes may be adequate unless rain makes conditions slippery. GPX files for the routes are provided on the event maps.

Finisher awards are handmade clay arrowheads created by Domestic Craft Art; each award is unique.

Crew and logistics notes: Crews and friends may provide assistance only at the Couchville and Bryant Grove aid stations. Access to other parking areas is allowed, but assisting runners outside the two designated aid stations can result in disqualification. Fifty kilometer runners may leave one drop bag at the Bryant Grove aid station.

Volunteer roles include clearing trail, packet pickup, staffing aid stations, and course sweeping. Volunteers receive a free race entry for themselves or another person, meals, and race apparel if desired. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
