Mendon Trail Run
The Mendon Trail Run is organized by the Rochester Orienteering Club and raises funds to support the Club's activities. The event uses trails on the east side of Mendon Ponds Park and has been offered since 1994.
Distances offered:
- 5K
- 10K
- Half Marathon
- 50K
Course details: The event uses a 10 km loop course that is entirely on trails or grassy fields. The loop is marked, with turns marked at trail junctions and traffic cones at the road crossing. The course has many rolling hills and is nearly all runnable, with one fairly short rocky downhill section where footing can be tricky. Each 10 km loop has an estimated 1000 feet of climb, while the total elevation difference between the lowest and highest points is about 150 feet. There are two park road crossings per loop; runners are responsible for their own safety when crossing roads.
Aid and pacing: For longer distances there is a mid-loop aid station roughly 3.5 miles into the loop and a water stop at the start/finish. The mid-loop station provides small cups of snacks and a variety of drinks; due to park health rules food may be handed to runners and volunteers will assist. A water and Gatorade station is available at the beginning of each loop. Pacers are permitted only for the 50K and only for the last two loops, subject to specific rules and a required waiver.
Registration and other notes: Entry is limited to 350 runners. A refund policy applies with a full refund minus a 20 percent administration fee available up to October 03 and no refunds after that date. Awards include overall male and female winners and ten year age group winners; a souvenir is provided to 50K finishers. A course map and additional event information are provided by the organizer.
