The Mathieson Cup and Shield XC takes place on 11 January 2026 at City of Belfast Mallusk Playing Fields, Park Road, Mallusk, BT36 4RH. The event is organised by Mallusk Harriers and forms part of the Athletics NI Cross Country League. Courses are off-road and may be flat, hilly or undulating on grass or muddy terrain. Age limits are set relative to the event date. Entries recorded so far total 239 participants.

  • Primary 5-7 boys and girls: 800 m, fee £3
  • Under-13 boys and girls: 2 km, fee £4
  • Under-15 boys and girls: 3 km, fee £4
  • Under-17 boys and girls: 4 km, fee £4
  • Senior women and male veterans (60+): 6 km, fee £10
  • Senior men: 8 km, fee £10

Male veteran entrants may enter from age 45, but veteran winners are declared only for age 60 and above. The male veteran race is run with the senior women over the 6 km distance.

A 5K multi terrain run from the centre of Carnlough through quarry trails and a short out and back on Largy Road, offering varied surfaces and coastal views. Entries open 15 April; minimum age 16.

Part of the Heart of the Glens Festival, the Lurig Challenge Run is a 3.8 mile off road route that climbs to the 1,073 foot summit of Lurig and returns. Entries open in June with a minimum age of 16 and a fee of £25.
