Marsh Madness
Marsh Madness is a free, self-supported ultra running event held at Pointe Mouillee State Game Area near South Rockwood, Michigan, on August 7, 2026. The event runs for 32 hours and is limited to 50 participants.
The course uses dikes and provides views across the water on the western shore of Lake Erie. The state game area covers 4,040 acres and is a large freshwater marsh restoration site known for waterfowl habitat.
Course details and logistics:
- Daytime loop: 8 miles
- Night loop: 5 miles The daytime loop surface is about 80% gravel and 20% asphalt, with roughly 69 feet of elevation gain per loop. There are no water crossings. Vehicles can be accessed approximately every 8 miles. Crew, pacers, and trekking poles are allowed.
Participants must supply all of their own aid and nutrition. There are no porta-potties and no garbage cans on site, so all waste must be carried out. There are no formal awards. The organizer will meet participants at the race start 30 minutes before the event to complete sign in. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
