Marlborough Downs Challenge

Marlborough, United Kingdom • 3 May 2026

Event Details

The Marlborough Downs Challenge offers two off-road running events. Participants can choose a 20 mile or a 33 mile trail race. The distances are approximate.

Course Information

Both courses are mostly off-road, following scenic tracks and footpaths across the North Wessex Downs. The 33 mile route has approximately 3000 feet of elevation, while the 20 mile route has about 1500 feet. The routes pass through Wiltshire countryside, including parts of the Wansdyke Path, Tan Hill Way, White Horse Trail, and Mid Wilts Way. The longer route also includes sections along the Kennet & Avon Canal into Devizes.

Route Highlights

The races feature views across the Vale of Pewsey and pass through West Woods and Gopher Wood. They go past two of the highest points in Wiltshire: Knapp Hill and Tan Hill. The longer route includes Roundway Hill, Morgan's Hill, the Cherhill Monument, and the Cherhill White Horse. After the two routes rejoin, the course passes through Avebury with its prehistoric stone circle and views of Silbury Hill. The route continues via Overton and Fyfield Downs back to the finish at Marlborough Leisure Centre.
