Mám Éan
Derryvealawauma, Ireland • 16 May 2026
Event Overview
The Mám Éan mountain run takes place in County Galway. It offers two course distances: a long course of 8.30 km with 350 m of climb and a short course of 3.70 km with 170 m of climb.
Route Description
The main course is primarily an out-and-back route on mountain paths. It starts on a main rocky path. After 1.5 km, it turns onto a smaller path towards a chapel, staying left at a cross. From the chapel, signage directs runners across the hill back to the main path. The route continues to a turnaround point at approximately 4.2 km on mixed rocky and grassy trail. The return section retraces the path for about 2 km before diverting onto a grassy side trail below the chapel, rejoining the main path for the final 1.3 km downhill to the finish. The route is fully marked. GPS devices are not allowed. The terrain is considered technical, with loose, rocky sections.
The short course turns at Gate 2, approximately 1.85 km into the route.
Mandatory Kit
A specific kit list is mandatory for all runners (Level B Standard). It includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or equivalent. All kit must be brought to the race, and the Race Director will determine on the day what must be carried based on conditions. Random checks may be carried out.
