Lettergesh-Benchoona Loop

The Lettergesh-Benchoona Loop is a new race scheduled for Sunday 14th June 2026 on the Bangor Erris Trail in County Mayo, held as part of the inaugural Connaught Weekend. Route and logistics are still in development and subject to permissions; the plan is to start and finish at the Connemara campsite and the route may change.

The course is listed as 34.00 km with 750 m of climb. Only major junctions will be marked and GPS is not allowed. The event uses a mandatory Level C kit requirement; all runners must carry the specified items and may be checked at random. The mandatory items include:

  • Waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams
  • Hat or buff and gloves
  • Whistle and charged mobile phone with emergency number stored
  • Foil blanket, bivvy bag or equivalent
  • Waterproof full leg cover
  • Means to carry at least 500 mL water and emergency food
  • Map of the route/area and compass

The precise kit to be carried will be finalised on the day and advised at Registration. Failure to have required items may result in denied entry or disqualification.

IMRA has reserved places at the Connemara Caravan and Camping Park for the Connacht Weekend. Booking will be via the IMRA shop; the reserved rate is €17 per person per night and includes unlimited hot showers, campers kitchen, fridge freezer and wash up area. Other accommodation options exist in the area and early booking is advisable. Entry details have not yet been posted; entries for league events usually open a couple of weeks before the event. Volunteers are required for event operation and non-running volunteering contributes to end of year prize eligibility. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
