Machlud Sunset Trail Race
The Machlud Sunset Trail Race is a trail half marathon routed around the Clwydian Hills with a finish in the village school. The course covers about a half marathon distance, roughly 21 km or 13.1 miles, and includes about 750 m of ascent. The route runs above the Vale of Clwyd, joins the Offa's Dyke footpath and reaches the summit of Moel Famau.
Most of the course is on good quality tracks and paths, with a few marshalled sections on quiet tarmac roads. The route is waymarked throughout. The second half contains most of the height gain and one short steep section that many participants are likely to walk. A headtorch is mandatory for descent and the final section is marked with reflective arrows. Snack and drink stations are provided on route. After the run there is a community finish in the school hall with hot soup or stew and crusty bread.
Entries are managed online through a timing provider and there are no entries on the day. The event has a field limit of 150 and a minimum age of 17. Canicross entries are accepted with dogs kept on leads in the start and finish areas and with owners responsible for negotiating stiles and gates. The event raises funds for the local primary school and is organised by parents, volunteers and local clubs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
