Live Oak Odyssey
Live Oak Odyssey is a fixed-time trail running event held Saturday, October 11, 2025, at O'Neill Regional Park in Trabuco Canyon, CA. The event offers two timed options: a 6 hour and a 3 hour run, conducted on a loop of about 2.75 miles per lap. Each loop gains roughly 500 feet of elevation and the course reaches a maximum elevation of 1,349 feet.
Course and event details
The loop runs through Trabuco and Live Oak Canyons and passes wooded areas of coast live oak and sycamore. Hillsides along the route include cactus, wild buckwheat, sagebrush and chaparral with scrub oak, buckthorn and mountain mahogany. The trail sequence from the start/finish follows Arroyo Trabuco Trail, a paved road to Live Oak Trail (about 1.3 miles), a right onto Coyote Canyon Trail (about 0.5 mile), then continues onto Coyote Trail back to the start. The course includes uphill and downhill sections on single-track and double-track surfaces and is marked with ribbons.
Logistics and rules note one main aid station at the start/finish with sweet and salty snacks, PB&J, fresh fruit, potatoes, Coke, ginger ale, GU Roctane salt pills, hydration by Tailwind Nutrition, GU salt capsules and anti-chafe salve by Squirrel's Nut Butter. Drop bags are handled near the aid station. Parking at the park requires a $5 fee (exact change) and OC Parks passes are not valid. Participants must complete a full loop for it to count; once a runner checks out they cannot return to add loops. No pacers and no pets on course. Camping is available at the park by reservation.
