Live Oak Odyssey - O'Neill Regional Park
Live Oak Odyssey is a fixed-time trail running event held at O'Neill Regional Park in Trabuco Canyon, California. The course uses an approximately 2.75 mile loop through Trabuco and Live Oak Canyons with about 500 feet of vertical gain per loop.
Event formats include:
- 8 hour fixed-time trail event
- 6 hour fixed-time trail event
- 3 hour fixed-time trail event
The park is heavily wooded with coast live oak and sycamore trees. Surrounding hillsides feature cactus, wild buckwheat, sagebrush and chaparral including scrub oak, buckthorn and mountain mahogany. The loop combines uphill and downhill sections and includes single-track and double-track trail; the route is marked with pink ribbons.
There is one main aid station at the start/finish that is stocked with sweet and salty snacks, PB&J, fresh fruit, potatoes, Coke, ginger ale, salt capsules and electrolyte hydration. Hydration and electrolytes are provided by Tailwind Nutrition. Crews are permitted at the main aid station but must remain at their vehicle and may not eat from aid station tables. A designated tent is available for drop bags near the aid station.
Race rules note that a full loop must be completed for it to count, checked out runners cannot return, pacers are not allowed and pets are not permitted on course. Parking at the park requires a $5 fee and exact change. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
