Leadville Boomdays International Pack Burro Race
The Leadville Boomdays International Pack Burro Race is a historic running event held in Leadville, Colorado, at elevations above 10,000 feet. Teams consist of one runner paired with one burro; competitors carry traditional mining tools and travel over high-altitude terrain shaped by the town's mining history.
Racers pass down Harrison Avenue and then climb into Leadville's east-side mining district. The long course is an out and back route from downtown toward Mosquito Pass, rising nearly 3,000 feet from town to elevations above 13,000 feet before returning to town for the descent. The short course is a refreshed, shorter route with official details to be announced; expected distance is about 6 to 8 miles.
The event has been held for more than 70 years and preserves elements of regional mining heritage and pack burro racing tradition. Course specifics for the short race and any final route changes are subject to announcement. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
