Le Défi Forestier
Le Défi Forestier is a trail event held on the Mont-Saint-Sacrement terrain in St-Gabriel-de-Valcartier. The format requires runners, solo or in teams of two to four, to collect checkpoints on the trails to accumulate points within a four hour time limit.
There are ten checkpoints, each assigned a point value that varies with elevation, distance and technical difficulty. Each checkpoint can be collected up to three times per score card. Teams receive two separate score cards; both cards must be presented together at the control station to validate points. One runner cannot carry both cards.
Most trails are one-way and an electronic map is provided at the start to help participants navigate. The complete trail map and the scoring table are revealed about one month before the event. A timed loop will reward the fastest runners.
Sample course combinations illustrate the variety of possible totals:
- 7.3 km, 250 m ascent
- 22.8 km, 1200 m ascent
- 40.5 km, 2500 m ascent
All proceeds are donated to the Mont-Saint-Sacrement Foundation. Registrations are non refundable. Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult; minors must present a parental authorization. Free on course refreshments are provided and additional food will be available from on site vendors. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
