Last Human Standing - West Greenwich, RI
This is an iterated loop endurance race held on private property adjacent to Big River Management Area in West Greenwich, Rhode Island. The event uses a single loop of approximately 3.8 mile with about 450 ft of vertical gain per loop. The precise site address is disclosed to registrants and their crews; parking is limited so entrants are asked to limit vehicles to one per runner.
Runners must complete each loop in under 60 minutes to continue. New laps begin at fixed hourly intervals and the format repeats until only one runner remains eligible to start the next lap. The remaining athlete must be present at the starting line and complete one more loop than the second to last finisher who did not continue in order to be declared the Last Human Standing.
The route starts on double-track for roughly 0.5 to 0.6 mile, then moves onto singletrack that crosses the double-track multiple times. Arrows and orange flags on the right mark the course. Terrain includes rocks, roots, and low logs and follows mountain bike trails that are open to non-motorized users.
The start/finish area includes a fully stocked aid station and space for pop-up tents and crew setups. Participants are advised to bring supplies as the aid station may not provide everything each racer prefers. Course previews on the property are restricted to official preview group runs.
