Lakes 3000 Ultra : Lake District mountain ultramarathon

The Lakes 3000 Ultra is a 54 mile (87 km) mountain route linking the Lake District’s four 3,000 foot peaks: Scafell, Scafell Pike, Helvellyn, and Skiddaw. The route includes over 15,000 feet (4,500 m) of ascent and must be completed within a 24 hour time limit. The event starts and finishes at the Pencil Factory in Keswick.

The course is unmarked but follows established Public Rights of Way trails. Organisers provide an official GPX file, a waterproof map, and detailed route notes. Participants must carry a prescribed full mandatory kit at all times; kit compliance is checked.

Medical and safety provision includes four valley medical aid stations offering hydration and nutrition, and three high-fell medical safety tents positioned on the mountains. Live open GPS tracking is used so supporters can follow progress in real time.

Included in the entry fee are a GPX file, waterproof map and route notes, an official Lakes 3000 buff, access to an open tracking photo dashboard, a finisher’s medal, hot food and drink at the finish, a drop bag facility at the start/finish, and a selection of race-pack materials. Entry requires a minimum age of 20 on race day. Entries open 1 August 2026 and close 14 May 2027. The event holds UTMB index status 100k with 3 race stones.
