Lakeland Trails at Ullswater : 1 November 2026

Lakeland Trails at Ullswater is a trail running event held at Glenridding on the eastern shore of Ullswater. The event offers two distances:

  • 10k
  • 14k

The 10k is open to entrants aged 16 and over. The 14k is for entrants aged 18 and over and is offered in both a Challenge start and a Race start; most 14k prizes are awarded only to runners in the Race start, though V70 and V80 competitors may be eligible from either start. Results are published live online. The finish is under the event gantry in Jenkin's Field.

Race format, compulsory kit and logistics

Competitors usually board Ullswater Steamers from the pier adjacent to Jenkin's Field and start after disembarking at Howtown to run back toward Glenridding. If the boats cannot sail, there are two contingency courses that start from Jenkin's Field; the alternate 14k route includes a climb to Boredale Hause.

There is a compulsory kit list: hat or Buff, gloves, waterproof jacket, and long leggings or overtrousers. Kit is checked before boarding the steamers and boarding is not permitted without it. There are no water stations on course; runners must carry their own water and a cup. Courses are waymarked and marshalled, include rocky and rooty sections, and have short tarmac sections near roads. Dogs and in-ear headphones are not allowed; bone conduction headphones are permitted. Official car parking requires following event signage and a cash parking payment; there is no park-and-ride service on the Sunday. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
