Lakeland Trails at Ullswater

Lakeland Trails at Ullswater takes place on 1st November 2026 and offers marked, marshalled trail running events on the eastern shore of Ullswater. The venue is Jenkin's Field, Glenridding, Cumbria, and the event uses Ullswater Steamers when weather allows; contingency courses are available if boats cannot sail.

Distances

  • 10k - trail run, minimum age 16, time limit 2 1/2 hours.
  • 14k - challenge and race options, minimum age 18, time limits vary up to 3 1/2 hours.

Courses use mainly scenic trails with short sections of tarmac. There are rocky and rooty sections that may be slippery, a road crossing close to the finish, and some climbs including an alternative 14k climb to Boredale Hause on contingency routes. All courses are waymarked and stewarded by volunteers.

Safety and logistics include compulsory kit checks before boarding the steamers. Competitors must carry a hat or buff, gloves, a waterproof jacket, and long leggings or overtrousers. There are no water stations on course so runners must carry their own water and cup. Rules include no dogs on course, no in ear headphones (bone conductor allowed), and horizontal attachment of race numbers for chip timing.

Event facilities include an event village with food traders, merchandise, medical cover and mountain rescue presence, on course photography, and live results and prizegiving. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
