Lakeland Trails at Ullswater

Lakeland Trails at Ullswater is a trail running event on the eastern shores of Ullswater with two main distances:

  • 10k on well marked and marshalled trails.
  • 14k featuring longer off-road sections.

The event normally includes a boat transfer to the start from the Ullswater Steamers pier; if boats cannot sail, two contingency courses are used that still take runners along the eastern shore. The alternate 14k route includes a significant climb to Boredale Hause and an extended descent into Patterdale Valley. Courses mix scenic trails with short sections of tarmac and several rocky or rooty sections that may be slippery.

There is a compulsory kit list: hat or Buff, gloves, waterproof jacket and long leggings or overtrousers. Kit is checked before boarding the boats and entry to the steamers is not allowed without the required items. Race numbers are collected on the day and must be worn horizontally for chip timing.

The event village includes food and drink stalls, traders and merchandise, a PA system with race commentary, first aid medics and mountain rescue presence. Parking is managed on site with a cash parking fee in the official car park; cars with four or more occupants may be eligible for free parking. Dogs are not permitted on the course.
