Lakeland Trails Marathon, Half, Mini-10K and 5K : Coniston

The event is a series of marked and marshalled trail races around Coniston in the Lake District, with a full marathon that circuits Coniston Water. The routes pass Tarn Hows, Beacon Tarn and an undulating trail along the edge of Grisedale Forest, offering panoramic views of Coniston Water and nearby peaks such as The Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags. Runners' World described it as "the most scenic trail Marathon in Britain."

Distances offered include:

  • Marathon
  • Half Marathon
  • Mini-Marathon 10k
  • Stretch Trail 5k

Courses are mainly hard packed trails with occasional muddy sections. All routes are well signed and marshalled; some gates may be closed and must be closed behind runners. Dogs are not permitted on the running courses. In-ear headphones are not allowed; bone-conduction devices are permitted. Water and feed stations provide snacks, water and flat coke, but participants are asked to bring their own reusable cup.

The event village is based at Coniston Sports and Social Centre and includes food stalls, local traders, a PA system with race commentary and live music. Finishers of the marathon receive a medal. Prizes are awarded in open and veteran age categories for the race starts. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
