Lakeland Trails Marathon, Half Marathon and Mini Marathon 10k : Coniston, Cumbria

The event stages trail races around Coniston, centred on Coniston Sports and Social Club. Distances on offer include:

  • Marathon - 42 km circuit of Coniston Water and Tarn Hows
  • Half Marathon - 21 km using the marathon first section to Tarn Hows
  • Mini Marathon 10k - 10 km route through Tarn Hows woods and a fast tree-lined descent

The courses are fully waymarked and marshalled, mostly on hard packed trails with occasional muddy sections. The marathon route includes a circuit of Tarn Hows, a run along the edge of Grisedale Forest beside Coniston Water and a climb and return via Beacon Tarn, with panoramic views of Coniston Water and nearby peaks such as the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags.

There are staffed feed stations with food, water and flat coke at set points on each course; runners are asked to bring a reusable cup or carry their own water. All adult entries require a minimum age of 18. Prizes are awarded for finishers entered in the designated race starts and medals are given to all marathon finishers. Dogs are not allowed on the courses.

The event village at the sports centre provides food stalls, race commentary and on-site traders, and volunteers marshal the routes and parking. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
