Lakeland Trails at Helvellyn

The event offers multiple waymarked, marshalled trail races that start and finish at Jenkins Field, Glenridding on the shores of Ullswater. Routes run on footpaths, bridleways and short sections of tarmac into the foothills of Helvellyn, with elevated views of Ullswater and surrounding peaks. Underfoot conditions are generally good for off road running but can be tricky in places.

Distances:

• 5k Helvellyn Sport Trail - open to ages 12 and over; no time limit.
• 10k Helvellyn Trail Run - open to ages 16 and over; 2 hour time limit.
• 15k Helvellyn Trail Race and Challenge - open to ages 18 and over; Race 2 hour limit, Challenge 3.5 hour limit.

Competitors must collect race numbers on the day from the registration marquee. There are no water stations on course so runners must carry their own water and a cup. In ear headphones are not permitted; bone conductor headphones are allowed. Dogs are not permitted on the course. Gates may be unstaffed so runners should close them after passing.

Event logistics note shuttle buses arranged from Penrith for the 15k events and limited pay and display parking in Glenridding with cash payment at the main car park. Event medics will provide advanced life support and a communications team will radio marshals. An event village hosts exhibitors, local caterers and a mountain rescue presence.
