Lakeland Trails Helvellyn

Lakeland Trails Helvellyn is a trail running event on Saturday 31 October 2026 in Glenridding, with start and finish on the shores of Ullswater. The routes run into the foothills of Helvellyn and pass through ancient woodlands with elevated views of Ullswater and surrounding peaks.

Courses follow well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways. Underfoot conditions are generally good for those used to off road running but can be tricky in places. Short sections of tarmac appear on some routes and runners should stay alert near roads and at crossings.

Practical and safety information includes mandatory display of the race number horizontally for timing, race number collection on the day at least 45 minutes before the start, and a recommended kit list that may be required in poor weather. Competitors must carry their own water and a personal cup because there are no water stations on the courses. Dogs are not permitted on the course and in ear headphones are not allowed; bone conductor devices are permitted.

Travel and parking arrangements note limited village parking, cash only payment at designated car parks, and the possibility of shuttle buses from Penrith for the 15 km events with a journey time of about 20 to 30 minutes. Baggage storage is available by the main marquee.

The event village includes exhibitors and retailers, local food and drink stalls, basic toilet facilities, medical cover from Event Advanced Life Support medics, live commentary, afternoon music and prize giving.
