Lakeland Country Fair Fell Races

The Lakeland Country Fair at Torver, near Coniston, includes fell races for juniors and seniors run under Fell Runners Association (FRA) rules. Races are free to enter; fair admission is required. The showground is at Little Arrow, Torver, on the A593, a few miles west of Coniston village.

Race categories and course data include:

  • Under 11: 1400 m, 57 m ascent
  • Under 13 / Under 15: 2200 m, 77 m ascent
  • Under 17 / Under 19: 3600 m, 133 m ascent
  • Senior: 8.5 km, 703 m ascent, minimum age 18

The senior course leaves the showground, goes to the summit of Coniston Old Man, and returns by a similar route. Runners may choose their own line except for a marked section near the start and finish. Use of GPS as a navigational aid is not permitted in the senior race. Full kit is compulsory in line with FRA requirements. Participants are asked to bring safety pins.

Prizes are awarded in junior age groups and senior categories. Senior winners receive vouchers, a bottle of wine and a trophy; there are prizes for second and third places and for several veteran and age categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Classic Lake District fell race from Howtown Bobbin Mill, testing runners over 13.3 miles with about 1400 m of climb across rugged terrain. Entry is on the day for £8 and limited to 100 starters so arrive early.

Trail running around Coniston Water with marathon, half marathon, a new 10k and a new 5k. Fully marked, marshalled courses, feed stations and an event village at Coniston Sports and Social Centre.

Take on the Mike Mallen Memorial Round Latrigg, a classic 5 mile fell race from Fitz Park in Keswick with scenic trails and friendly marshals. Day entry available for ages 16 plus and all funds raised go to charity.

Trail runs from Waterside Campsite in Pooley Bridge offering 10km and half marathon routes with live chip timing, finisher medal, optional event t-shirt and on-site parking. The event supports Patterdale Mountain Rescue and allows donations..
