Lake Sonoma Trail Races
The Lake Sonoma event is an annual trail running festival held in the California wine country. The races are situated around Lake Sonoma, a recreation area featuring over 50 miles of shoreline and 2,700 acres of surface area. The event offers three distinct trail distances:
- 100 km
- 50 km
- Half Marathon
The 100 km course serves as a Western States Qualifier for runners who finish in under 19 hours. The route follows the original 50-mile out-and-back course, passing through Madrone groves and reaching the summit of Pritchett Peak. The 50 km distance is a newer addition that includes a crossing of the Lake Sonoma bridge. Both ultra-distances start and finish at the Lake Sonoma Visitor Center.
The Trail Sisters Half Marathon is a women-only race designed for both first-time and experienced trail runners. This point-to-point course starts at the Lone Rock parking lot, crosses the Lake Sonoma bridge, and concludes at the festival finish line at the Visitor Center. A shuttle service is provided to transport participants from the finish back to the starting area. The half marathon has a 5-hour cutoff time.
The event weekend includes community activities such as a shakeout run on Thursday, an athlete panel and dinner on Friday, and a social event on Sunday. Finishers receive a custom bottle of wine as an award. On-site vehicle and tent camping are permitted in the main parking lot for Friday and Saturday nights.
