Lake Chabot Trail Challenge - 2026

The 42nd annual Lake Chabot Trail Challenge takes place on June 7, 2026 in Castro Valley at Lake Chabot (17404 Lake Chabot Road). This event includes the following distances:

  • Half Marathon : scenic hilly loop mainly on dirt fire roads.
  • 5K : out and back, mostly paved with gentle rolling hills.

The half marathon route follows ridge lines with views of Lake Chabot, surrounding grassy slopes, and eucalyptus groves; Mt. Diablo and San Francisco Bay are visible along the course. The half marathon has a 3.5 hour time limit. Water stations are provided with first aid and radio support; participants are advised to bring personal hydration. The 5K features one water station with first aid and radio support. Both races are chip timed. The race takes place rain or shine and there are no refunds.

Pre-registered runners are guaranteed a short sleeve t-shirt if registered by May 10, 2026. Posted prices list entry fees for the 5K and the half marathon and higher fees for race day registration; race day payments accepted in cash, check, or Venmo. There is a nominal fee for the Chabot parking lot and free parking on Lake Chabot Road and nearby streets. Race packet and bib pick-up is at the Willow picnic site, and race photos will be available after the event. Awards include finisher medals and age division medals for top finishers in each division. Redtail Ridge at Lake Chabot on February 21, 2026 features 5K to 50K trail races on mixed dirt trails, fire roads and some paved sections. The event is chip timed, cupless, and limited to 500 runners.

Montara Mountain Trail Run in Pacifica on Feb 21, 2026 offers distances from a 10K to a 50K plus a free kids 50 yd dash, marked courses, aid stations every 6 to 7 miles, and a cupless hydration policy.

This trail run in Walnut Creek's Lime Ridge area features unmapped courses. Runners follow a map to find checkpoints, choosing their own path through oak trees and quarries. Snacks await at the finish.

The Zoom Angel Island will take place in Tiburon on Sunday 1 March 2026. You can run between 5 and 15 miles.
