Lake Chabot Trail Challenge
The Lake Chabot Trail Challenge is the 43rd annual half marathon and 5K held on Sunday, June 6, 2027, in Castro Valley, California at 17404 Lake Chabot Rd. The event takes place rain or shine and there are no refunds. It is described as well regarded among trail runners in the surrounding area. Both races are chip timed.
The half marathon is a scenic, hilly loop mainly on dirt fire roads with ridge-line views of Lake Chabot, grassy slopes, and eucalyptus groves. Mt. Diablo and San Francisco Bay are visible along the route. The half marathon has a time limit of 3.5 hours. There are water stations with first aid and radio support; participants are advised to bring personal hydration.
The 5K is an out and back course of about 3.1 miles with gentle rolling hills and mostly paved surfaces. This route includes one water station with first aid and radio support.
Logistics and fees include guaranteed T-shirts for pre-registration by May 8, 2027, a registration deadline of June 5, 2027, and different fees for pre-registration and race-day registration. There is a nominal fee for the Chabot parking lot and free parking on Lake Chabot Rd and nearby streets.
