The Lake Chabot Trail Challenge on Sunday, June 7, 2026, offers two chip-timed events held at Lake Chabot in Castro Valley, California (17404 Lake Chabot Rd). The event is presented by the Castro Valley Sports Foundation as a fundraiser. Entry fee policies state that pre-registered runners who register by May 10, 2026, are guaranteed a short-sleeve t-shirt; race packets and bibs will not be mailed. There is a nominal fee for the Chabot parking lot (about $5) and free street parking on Lake Chabot Road and nearby streets.

Distances:

  • Half Marathon
  • 5K (3.1 miles)

Published registration prices note lower pre-registration rates and higher race-day rates for each event. Both races are chip-timed. Course maps from prior years are available as PDF downloads.

Course and logistics

The half marathon is a hilly loop mainly on dirt fire roads with ridge-line views of Lake Chabot, grassy slopes, and eucalyptus groves; Mt. Diablo and San Francisco Bay are visible along the route. The half marathon has a 3.5-hour time limit. Aid includes water stations with first aid and radio support; participants are advised to bring personal hydration. The 5K is an out-and-back of mostly paved surfaces with gentle rolling hills and one water station with first aid and radio support. Race packet and bib pick-up will be at the Willow picnic site, which is also the finish area. Awards include finisher medals and age-division medals for top finishers in designated divisions.
