Kentucky Cryptid Series - Bigfoot

The Kentucky Cryptid Series - Bigfoot is a trail running event held at Jefferson Memorial Forest in Fairdale. As the fourth installment in a series of trail runs through the local park system, this event takes place at the Horine Reservation. The courses utilize sections of the Red, Orange, and Blue trails, winding through the forested terrain and extending toward the Welcome Center and back.

Participants can choose between two primary distances:

  • 8 Miler
  • 5 Miler

The event is a cupless race, meaning runners must bring their own hydration equipment such as water bottles, packs, or reusable cups to reduce litter. An on-course water station is provided for those participating in the 8 Miler, located as the route returns from the Red trail. At the finish line, water and pre-packaged snacks are available for all runners. Facilities at the site include outhouse restrooms at the start/finish area and additional portable restrooms located approximately 1/8 mile down the campground lane.

Packet pick-up is conducted on-site near the parking lot on the morning of the event. While event shirts are available as an optional add-on during registration, a limited quantity may be available on the day. Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners of each race. Runners who complete three of the four events in the series are eligible for a series survivor medal and shirt. Parking is limited at the Horine Reservation, and carpooling is encouraged.
