The event is a 50 km trail race with approximately 900 m of ascent. The route uses a mix of trail, road and fell terrain, begins in Kendal town centre and finishes at the Kendal Mountain Festival Basecamp. The race has a maximum allowed time of 10 hours and is part of the UTMB Index as a 50K category event. Entry options and tiered fees are published for 2025, and entries open 2 April 2025 and close 13 November 2025. Minimum age is 18.

Course, support and rules

The course links local summits and passes local features including limestone escarpments, castles, a deer park and river trails. The route is fully signed, comprehensively waymarked and marshalled. A GPX file is provided in advance and participants carry live GPS trackers; race timing is recorded digitally. There are two support points plus an additional water point offering hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, soup, savoury snacks, cakes and fruit, with gluten-free and vegan options and a meat and fish free menu. Baggage storage, toilets on course and at the event base, and optional post-race showers are available.

Safety cover includes event medics and a professional mountain rescue response team. Mandatory kit is required and an equipment checklist is provided; additional exceptional-weather kit may be required on the day. Supporters are not allowed at support or water points, dogs are not permitted on the route, pacers are not allowed, and runners may only retire at designated support or water points or at the finish. Prizes are awarded to top finishers by gender and veteran age category. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
