Kaim Hill Race
The Kaim Hill Race is the opening event in the Scottish Hill Runners Bog and Burn series. Participants cover a distance of 5.7 km with a total ascent of 380 m. The course is limited to 150 participants and follows Scottish Hill Runners rules regarding required safety equipment such as waterproof body cover, a hat, gloves, and a whistle.
The route begins with a short tarmac section on Castlepark Drive before entering Fairlie Glen. This portion of the course features a narrow, winding trail with uneven surfaces and tree roots. After passing a kissing gate at the top of the glen, the track involves a burn crossing and a climb up a steep muddy bank to reach the open hillside. This area consists of rough heather and grassy tussocks.
The path follows a quad bike track on the summit plateau, moving in an anti-clockwise direction toward the cairn. After the turn, the descent passes through a bog and returns via the same route to the finish line. The downhill section through the glen requires caution due to the presence of rocks and roots.
Registration takes place at Fairlie Parish Church, located approximately 0.6 miles from the Fairlie Train Station. The start line is situated a 7 minute walk from the registration area.
