Jurassic Coast Ultra - 40 Miler

The Jurassic Coast Ultra is a 40 mile route from Abbotsbury to Lulworth Cove along the South West Coast path. The course runs on a well-worn coastal trail marked by the Acorn sign and places an emphasis on self-navigation; in many sections the route follows the sea to the right and the land to the left.

Terrain is wild and rugged with steep climbs and descents that require concentration and physical effort. Checkpoints are located approximately every 10 to 20 km and provide food, water and additional items. Participants must maintain a minimum speed of 5 km per hour; the overall cut off is 13 hours for the circa 65 km course. Runners who do not meet checkpoint cut off times will be retired from the event.

Event headquarters is at the Masonic Lodge Portland, Victoria Square, Portland, Dorset, DT5 1AL. Transport is provided from the HQ to the start by minibus, a journey of approximately 40 minutes, and transport is available from the finish back to the HQ. The event provides medical cover and on course support, including minibus pick up for retired participants.

Entry includes a GPS tracker with live view tracking maps, an event T shirt, food and drink on course, a bespoke finisher medal, free parking at the HQ and medical cover. Carrying mandatory kit is compulsory; required items include a navigation device, waterproof top and long trousers, warm top and hat and gloves sealed in a waterproof bag, emergency food, torch with spare batteries, at least 400 ml of water, a high visibility item, a reusable folding cup and a fully charged mobile phone. No exceptions to the kit requirement are permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
