Event overview
The Jordan River Backyard takes place October 18, 2025 at East River Front Park, 10900 S River Front Pkwy, South Jordan, UT. It is a backyard ultra where runners complete a fixed loop once every hour until they stop or are unable to finish a loop. The loop distance is 4.167 miles; each loop has about +45 ft elevation gain. Distances offered:
- 24-hour (aiming for 100 miles)
- 12-hour (aiming for 50 miles)
- 6-hour morning
- 6-hour afternoon
- midnight 6-hour
All runners who complete at least one loop receive a finisher medal. Runners who complete 12 loops receive a custom leather patch beanie for 50 miles; 24 loops earn a leather patch beanie for 100 miles. The last loop, called the Legacy loop, is timed and used to determine 1st–3rd place finishers.
Course, rules, and logistics
The course begins and finishes at the East River Front Park pavilion and is 100% paved. The trail is marked with pink flags, cones, and signs. Free parking is available at the park and there is space for tents, a pavilion, playground, and shade. The finish area will be stocked with snacks, electrolyte drink (Tailwind), and Great Harvest Bread; pizza is ordered at the conclusion of the 12-hour event.
Key rules include completing each loop within the hour to receive credit, no pacers or artificial aid (including trekking poles), and remaining in the starting area when each loop begins unless dropping. Capacity limits are enforced to avoid trail congestion: the 12-hour and 24-hour events are capped combined, and each 6-hour event has its own cap. Registration closes the day before the race.
