John Jay Community Trail Race

The John Jay Community Trail Race is a sporting event held on the John Jay Campus in Cross River. The courses utilize the wooded trail system developed by community volunteers, passing through the grounds of the local middle and high schools. The event includes competitive and non-competitive options:

  • 5 km: A competitive trail race starting on the lower fields, traversing wooded sections, and finishing at the contest field.
  • 4 km: A non-competitive walking event that follows the main trail system, bypassing the southern hill loop.
  • 200 m: A dash for students in 5th grade and under, held on the track in the shape of a "J."

The terrain in the wooded sections contains hills and natural trail surfaces. The 5 km course begins at the John Jay Middle School field, completes a trail loop, and concludes at the John Jay Contest Field. The 4 km walk follows a similar path but runs in the opposite direction of the runners for a portion of the route.

The 200 m Kids Jay Dash occurs on the purple John Jay Contest Track. Depending on the volume of participants, this youth race is organized into age groups for those 4 and under, 5 to 8 years old, and 9 to 11 years old.

Because the event takes place on school grounds, animals are prohibited with the exception of service animals. Facilities include the John Jay Middle School field and the John Jay Contest Track & Field located near Route 121. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
