Iron X
Iron X is an extreme ironing race held in Auburn, CA. The event is run as a Half Marathon in which participants stop at set places in town to iron a button-up shirt while running between locations.
Participants must wear a button-up shirt throughout the event, removing it, ironing it, and putting it back on at each location. Wearing another shirt underneath is allowed.
The required ironing locations are: The Foundation Iron (middle of the old foundation at Robie Point), The River Iron (at least knee deep in the river just south of No Hands Bridge), The No Hands Iron (in the middle of No Hands Bridge), The Foresthill Bridge Iron (top of Kickass, east side of the bridge, south side of Foresthill Road), The Dead Car Iron (on top of vehicle remains), The Statue and Train Iron (on the statue's foundation block on Lincoln Avenue between Elm and Harrison), The Clock Tower Iron (in front of or next to the clock tower at Lincoln Way and High Street), and The Courthouse Iron (in the parking lot in front of the old courthouse in old town Auburn).
Each ironist must record a video showing themselves ironing at each location with the location clear in the video. Spectators may film; they are only allowed to record and may not provide aid. Failure to provide required video evidence or to iron at the specified location results in a ten minute penalty per location added to the finish time.
This event is an unofficial fatass. There are no aid stations, no medical support, no medals, and no pacers. Participants must be self-supported and carry their own ironing board, iron, fuel, and water for the entire event. Ironing boards must be at least 3 feet 3 inches long and 11 inches wide and have legs. Battery powered irons are required; plastic irons are acceptable.
