Irish Orienteering Championships 2026 - Classic Distance
The Classic Distance competition for the Irish Orienteering Championships is scheduled for Sunday 30 August 2026 on Rosskerrig, a hillside area on the Sheep's Head Peninsula in County Cork located between Ahakista and Kilcrohane. The map for the area has been completely re-mapped using LIDAR and re-surveyed for the 2026 championships. Permissions for the Rosskerrig area are noted as pending.
The championship courses follow Orienteering Ireland guidelines for long-distance events; course-specific winning times and exact lengths are published in the final information documents. Organisers note that winning times are likely to be longer than originally planned because vegetation growth over the summer may slow progress. Arrangements for parking and access to the assembly area may be updated nearer the event.
Entries for the rescheduled Classic Distance were managed through the Fabian4 entry system. Early bird entry closed 31 July 2026 and the final entry deadline was 14 August 2026. Earlier entries for a May date were cancelled and refunds of 80% were issued to those registrants; entry-on-the-day was not available.
Championship prizes in each class are awarded to the top three competitors who are eligible to be Irish Champions; if a class is won by an ineligible competitor, an additional prize is awarded. A range of non-championship courses is also offered on the same day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
