Bauers Megabackyard Funrun

Bauers Megabackyard Funrun is an endurance event held in Waterville on the Iveragh Peninsula, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the Skelligs. The event uses the official Waterville Trailrunning Festival 43 km loop, starting and finishing at Kylemore Lodge, Southview Terrace, Waterville, Kerry.

The format is a repeated loop race. Each loop must be completed within eight hours to count and new loops start every eight hours. Loops continue for as long as any participant can complete them. Only full loops count toward the result; the winner is the last person to complete a full loop. If no participant completes more loops than the others, no winner is declared.

Entry is by application only and the field is limited to 33 participants. Successful applicants must confirm and pay within seven days; places are non-transferable, non-refundable and cannot be deferred. The entry fee is €100 with a refund of €5 for every loop finished.

Participants must camp at base camp in tents only. A maximum of two support crew per participant is permitted on site and at base camp. Trackers are provided. Mobile phones must be carried sealed for emergency use only and any use by a participant is an automatic DNF. Mandatory kit includes a tent for base camp, minimum one support crew, GPS navigation aids, waterproof jacket and trousers, thermal layers, hat and gloves, paper map and compass, whistle, survival shelter or bivvy, survival blanket, a basic first aid kit and means to carry at least 500 ml of water. Parking is at Waterville GAA car park and toilets are provided. No individual camp fires are permitted; one communal camp fire will be available.
