Brandon Ridge Half Marathon
Brandon Ridge Half Marathon : Dingle, County Kerry
The Brandon Ridge Half Marathon is a mountain half marathon covering 21.00 km with total ascent of 1,260 m. The course runs from the foot of Mount Brandon, follows the ridge with several major climbs and descents, and finishes at the courtyard behind Paul Geaney's pub in Dingle.
The route is only marked at major junctions and GPS is allowed. Navigation skills may be required in mist or fog; participants are advised to have the GPX file available. The main climb is up Mt Brandon, followed by a steep ascent to An Géarán, a descent to the saddle of Mullach Bhéal and another climb, then boggy trail sections and a descent to Connors Pass before a grassy boggy track and a final stony section into Dingle.
Registration takes place at Paul Geaney's courtyard in Dingle, with a bus transfer to the race start. Parking is available on the road outside the rear of the pub or at the nearby public carpark. Mandatory Level C kit is required and includes a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone, foil blanket or bivvy, waterproof full leg cover, means to carry at least 500 mL water, emergency food, map and compass. A gear check may be carried out at registration.
Entry fee is €40. Prizes are awarded to the first three male and female finishers. Finishers are offered soup and sandwiches at the finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
