Trail Running in Hurn Forest

Intergalactic is a trail event held in Hurn Forest, starting and finishing at the Hospital Services Cricket Club in St Leonards. The course consists of a 5.3 km (3.28 mile) out and back loop following the main forest track. The terrain is hardstanding and maintained, so while trail shoes are recommended, they are not strictly essential for participation.

Participants can select their own distance by completing multiple laps, ranging from a 5K to an ultra-marathon distance. The event operates with a seven-hour time limit. Finishers who complete at least one lap receive a medal. Registration and bib pick-up take place on the day of the event before starting.

The event follows UK Athletics rules and is licensed by the Trail Running Association. The organizers contribute 20% of entry fees to Forestry England to help maintain national trails and forests.

Available distances include:

  • 5 km
  • 10 km
  • Half Marathon
  • Marathon
  • Ultra-marathon

An aid station located at the start and finish of each lap provides sweet and savoury snacks along with drinks. This is a cup-less event, so runners must provide their own reusable bottles or cups. Facilities include toilets at the cricket club and a designated area for personal belongings. Regional public transport options include the Morebus service to St. Leonard's Hospital or rail services to Bournemouth and Branksome stations.
