Independence Day Classic - 42nd Anniversary

The Independence Day Classic takes place on July 4, 2026, in Newhall Park, Newhall, CA. The event is presented by the Santa Clarita Runners with sponsor Heritage Sierra and benefits cross-country programs for seven area high schools and other local non-profit organizations.

Course details include a flat, paved 5K that proceeds west on Dalbey Drive along the City of Santa Clarita parade route with a turnaround in front of the Lyons Avenue library. The Kid K is a short out-and-back from the 5K start line and Dalbey Drive will be closed during the race. The Masters Mile Walk is a flat out-and-back that follows part of the parade route.

Packet pick-up is offered Friday, July 3 from 3:00 to 8:00pm at the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita and on race morning at the Newhall Multi-Purpose Room. There is no race day registration.

Participant amenities include technical shirts and finisher medals for 5K and Masters Mile Walk entrants, finisher medals for Kid K participants, a water station on the 5K course, free downloadable photos after the event, and an on-site race expo with complimentary Kona Ice. Awards for overall, team, and 5K age groups are presented during the expo. The event does not offer refunds; transfers are permitted through the race registration system and race insurance may be available at registration.
