Tough Mugu is a trail running event held at La Jolla Canyon in Point Mugu State Park. It is race two of the Bulldog Challenge Series and offers two measured trail distances with marked courses and aid station support.

The 25k course follows the Ray Miller Trail and sections of the Overlook Fireroad, includes a scenic bypass around Mugu Peak with views of the Channel Islands, passes long valleys with Boney Mountain in view, and finishes via Ray Miller switchbacks. The event is cupless; aid stations are positioned along the courses at specified mile markers and some locations include cut-offs.

The event is organized by SoCalTrail with chip timing and same-day results. Support includes professionally marked courses, aid stations staffed by local run clubs, certified sports massage before and after the race, and medical coverage at aid stations. All participants receive locally made finisher medals and a soft or tech race shirt. Post-race festival features a hydration station with Long Run Coffee and Athletic Brewing, breakfast tacos including plant-based options, a beer garden with complimentary finisher beers for 21 and older, and free next-day race photography.

Phoenix Rising is a multi distance trail race in Griffith Park Los Angeles offering 5k, 10k, 15k and a half marathon on marked out and back and loop courses. The event includes aid stations, finisher medals and free photos.

A second annual running event at the Old Los Angeles Zoo area on June 14, 2026, offering a half marathon and a 12K on relatively flat, scenic trails. Registration runs November 21, 2025 to January 26, 2026 with fees from $49.

Trail races at Topanga State Park include 10k and a new 15k, a non timed Hiker's Delight, and a kids 1k, with aid stations, chip timing, prize purses, shuttle parking, and a post-race festival.

A community July 4 event in Newhall Park featuring a flat, paved 5K along the parade route, a Kid K, and a Masters Mile Walk, with shirts, medals, an expo, and awards benefiting local high school cross-country programs.
