Tough Mugu
Tough Mugu is a trail running event held at La Jolla Canyon in Point Mugu State Park, Malibu, CA. The event offers two measured trail distances and uses the Ray Miller Trail and nearby fire roads and single track that rise from sea level into coastal mountain terrain. The 25k route includes switchbacks, a scenic bypass around Mugu Peak with views toward the Channel Islands, a long valley with Boney Mountain in view, and a final section of switchbacks on the Ray Miller Trail. Courses are marked for daytime and night running and aid stations are staffed by local run clubs.
- 25k: 15.75 miles with 2,427' vert
- 10k: 6.2 miles with 1,164' vert
Event services include chip timing with same day results, professional medical support at aid stations, certified sports massage pre and post race, finish line announcers and music, and real-time social media coverage. All SoCalTrail races are CUPLESS. Participants receive locally made finisher medals and a race shirt choice of soft cotton or tech fabric. Post race offerings include a festival hydration station, breakfast tacos with plant based options, a beer garden with two complimentary beers for those 21 and older, and free next day race photography.
