Tough Mugu is a trail running event held at La Jolla Canyon in Point Mugu State Park near Malibu. The event offers two measured trail distances and a fully supported race environment with chip timing and same-day results. All races are cupless.

The courses use the Ray Miller Trail and surrounding coastal mountain terrain. The 25k covers 15.75 miles with 2,427 feet of elevation gain, traversing fire roads, single track, rolling valleys and switchbacks with views of the Channel Islands and Boney Mountain. The 10k covers 6.2 miles with 1,164 feet of elevation gain.

Race support includes marked courses suitable for daytime or night running, aid stations staffed by local run clubs, certified sports massage before and after the race, and professional medical support. Finishers receive locally made medals and a choice of soft cotton or tech shirts with gender-specific fits. A festival at the finish features a beer garden with complimentary finisher beers for 21 and over, a hydration station with coffee options, breakfast tacos with plant-based choices, finish line announcers and a music DJ. Free next-day race photography is provided.

The event is part of the Bulldog Challenge Series, which awards series prizes and a limited edition Bulldog Challenge jacket to series finishers. A podium prize purse of $2,000 is distributed across top finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
