HOWL Trail
The HOWL Trail event comprises three trail races that follow the final sections of the Heart of Wales Line trail, which runs for 141 miles from Llanelli, Powys to Craven Arms, Shropshire. The event takes place on 29 May 2027 with the finish at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, School Road, Craven Arms, SY7 9RS.
Distances offered:
- 50 miles - registration in Llandrindod Wells; two manned checkpoints (15 mi, 19 mi).
- 26 miles - registration at Knucklass Community Centre; one manned checkpoint at Bucknell.
- 16 miles - registration planned at St Mary’s Primary School, Bucknell; no manned checkpoints.
Each race has a baggage drop at the registration point; baggage will be transported to the finish at the Discovery Centre. Parking is available at the finish; a £5 parking charge applies and supports the Discovery Centre. The route is way-marked with roundels, finger posts and signs that use the route viaduct logo. The Heart of Wales Line trail passes through Shropshire, Powys, Carmarthenshire, Brecon Beacons National Park and Swansea and opened in spring 2019.
