Horseshoe Lake Trail Run

The Horseshoe Lake Trail Run is held at the Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve in La Honda and uses trails within Skyline Ridge, Long Ridge, and Russian Ridge Open Space Preserves. The majority of the route follows the Bay Area Ridge Trail and includes views of the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Cruz Mountains. Distances were measured with a Rolatape surveyor's measuring wheel.

Course surface and elevation examples are provided: the 5 mile course lists about 960 ft elevation gain and single track and dirt road surfaces; the half marathon lists about 1,800 ft elevation gain; the 30K lists about 2,760 ft elevation gain. The course will be marked with ribbon roughly every 200 yards and uses color coding plus polka-dot flagging to indicate turns. Blue ribbons mark wrong ways.

Aid stations are fully stocked every 5 to 6.5 miles with fresh fruit, salty snacks, candy, water, and Skratch electrolyte drink; runners are advised to carry at least 20 oz of water between aid stations. The event is cupless; participants should bring their own fluid container. Drop bags are allowed for 30K, marathon, and 50K at the start finish area. Parking is free. T shirts are provided to pre-registered runners and all finishers receive a custom medal. All events have a five hour time limit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
