Honest Abe Trail Run Marathon / 14K / 5K

The event takes place Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Lincoln State Park in Lincoln City, Spencer County, Indiana. Races start near the Lincoln Amphitheatre inside the park; follow event signs on arrival.

Distances offered:

  • Marathon three loops of the park loop.
  • 14K one loop of the park loop.
  • 5K course on paved and gravel roads.

Registration is handled through RunSignUp and there is no participant cap. Early registration ends Friday, September 11, 2026; online registration closes Saturday, September 19, 2026. Entry fees vary by distance and registration period.

The trail course is primarily double-track with some gravel and a few road crossings. The marathon is three loops and the 14K is one loop. The 5K follows paved and gravel roads. There are two aid stations on the loop route, at the start/finish and at a midpoint (4.3 miles). Aid stations offer water, sports drink, bananas, and snacks. There is no aid station on the 5K route. Runners are encouraged to carry refillable bottles.

Time limits apply. Any competitor taking more than seven hours will be recorded as DNF. Marathoners who have not begun their third loop by the five-hour mark will be recorded as DNF.

Marathon participants may leave a drop bag at the start/finish; bags will be exposed to the elements. Awards are given to the top two male and female finishers in each race. Lincoln State Park offers camping and cabins and nearby towns list hotel options. The park entry fee per vehicle is maintained to encourage carpooling.
