The Holme Howler is a 10 km adventure run and obstacle course held at Holme Sports Field on the edge of the Lake District. The event is part of the village Festival of Sport weekend and includes activities for participants and families.

The course runs across roads, fields and canal paths on an undulating, multi terrain route. The event features a variety of obstacles including cargo nets, walls, monkey bars and a water slide. The 2026 event theme is Fantasy, with related costumes and atmosphere.

Additional festival features include a village fete with stalls and food, a 5 a side football tournament, and an after party at The Smithy Inn. The Festival of Sport continues on Sunday with a BBQ and sports day style competitions at the cricket club. Event parking is available on Station Road LA6 1RQ at a stated charge.

Entry information notes a maximum of 250 entrants, entries close 08/07/2026, and the minimum age for the 10 km event is 16 years. A 10.5 km fell race to the summit of Whernside with 468 m of ascent, starting near Ribblehead Viaduct and finishing by The Station Inn in Ribblehead. The race follows FRA rules and requires mandatory safety kit and an age minimum of 18.

Experience a traditional Lakeland gala race featuring a steep 2.3 km course with 300 meters of ascent. This event offers technical fell running for both seniors and juniors at the New Dungeon Ghyll Gala Field.

Trail runs from Dunsop Bridge through the Forest of Bowland offering 10k and 15k routes, chip timing, technical T shirt and finisher medal. Entries open 12 May and close 1 July 2026 and minimum age is 17.
