Holme Howler 2026

The Holme Howler is a village event held on Saturday 11th July 2026 at Holme Sports Field on the edge of the Lake District. It forms part of the village Festival of Sport weekend and features a mix of running and family activities.

The main event is a 10 km adventure run across roads, fields and canal paths with multiple obstacles including cargo nets, walls, monkey bars and a water slide. A shorter option called the Half Howler covers 5 km and is open to participants aged 12 years and up. There is also a Mini Howler fun run and other festival elements.

A 2026 theme of Fantasy is planned, encouraging themed costumes. Event capacity is limited to 288 entrants and entries close on 08/07/2026. The minimum age for the 10 km event is 16 years. Event parking is provided at Station Road LA6 1RQ with a parking fee of £1.50 per car.

Complementary festival activities include a village fete with stalls and food, a 5 a side football tournament, and an after party at The Smithy Inn. On the Sunday the festival continues with a BBQ and sports day style competitions at Holme Cricket Club. Enjoy a 10 km stroll or jog through the Eden Valley reaching the summit of Birket Fell. This evening event features a local food tasting experience and guided options with hosts sharing local history and mountain stories.

A short fell race at Beckside Farm in Ulverston on 13 June 2026 featuring a climb to the top of Flan Fell and separate turning points for Under 14 and older categories.

A day of mountain races around Kirkby Stephen in East Cumbria offering 65 km, 26 mile, 20k and 11.2 km routes. GPS tracking, feed stations and a Basecamp with music and camping support the event.

A two-day trail running weekend in Grizedale Forest with an eight hour relay on a 7 km loop and a 22 km individual race over two 11 km laps. The event includes camping, food vendors, live timing, talks and on-site facilities.
