Event Overview
The Heron Trail Run is an annual event held at The Heron Farm and Events Center in Panama, New York. This memorial event is dedicated to Dave McDonald and organized to support the Centaur Stride Therapeutic Riding Facility in Sherman, NY. The event is sanctioned by USATF and timing services are provided by Trackqua.
Course and Disciplines
Participants can choose between two main formats on the well-marked trail route:
- 5K Run
- 5K Walk Only
The trail is designed to accommodate various experience levels and ages. Registration for both categories is free, though participants are encouraged to donate to the supported charity.
Recognition and Awards
The event features several categories of recognition for participants. Overall finishers, winners in the 17 and under category, and winners in the 50 plus category receive superhero capes. Medals are awarded to the top 10 finishers as well as age group winners.
Facilities and Additional Activities
The event includes a variety of onsite amenities and entertainment. Live music is scheduled from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on the day of the race. Breakfast and lunch options are available for purchase, and event-specific t-shirts are sold while supplies last. The venue also hosts family-friendly activities and games for children. For those interested in an extended stay, overnight camping and additional music performances take place the evening prior to the race, which require separate tickets.
