Heart of Cool Trail Run : overview and entry

The Heart of Cool Trail Run takes place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Cool, California (860 Cave Valley Rd., Cool, CA 95614). The event includes the following distances:

  • 5k Trail Run/Walk
  • 10k Run/Walk
  • Trail Half Marathon

Registration is available online until the start of each event. Participants who register by September 30 receive a HoC cotton t-shirt. All half marathon participants receive a new item for 2025 (details to be announced). The event is open to entrants up to age 110. Packet and bib pick up occur on race day. A family discount package is offered for immediate family members in the 5k and 10k. Child care is available for children ages 3 and up for a fee of $8 per child when an adult participates without the child. A post-race pancake breakfast is provided.

Course, charity and logistics

The courses run on trails in Cool and the Sierra Foothills and use some of the same trails as established local events. Course maps are provided online for each distance. The event is cup free to reduce waste; runners should bring a cup or refillable water bottle for aid station refills. Proceeds support youth programs in the Black Oak Mines Unified School District, including agriculture, engineering and visual and performing arts, and a portion funds a scholarship for a child to attend Camp Taylor for youth with heart disease.
