Lakeland Trails in Hawkshead is a trail running event held in Hawkshead, Lake District, on 11 April 2026. The event offers two main distances and separate formats for runners and walkers. Routes start and finish at Hawkshead Recreation Ground and follow marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways with panoramic views of Windermere, the Coniston Hills, the Langdales and surrounding fells.

Event details

The 10k is open to entrants aged 16 and over and has a published time limit. The 16k is offered as a Race for competitive runners and as a Challenge aimed at less competitive runners and Nordic walkers; 16k events require entrants to be at least 18 years old. Entry fees are listed at £28.50 with a reduced rate of £15 for under 25s. A limited number of discounted Earlybird places are available (first 250 places).

Course features include mainly scenic trails with short sections of tarmac, some steep rocky descents and a notable mile-long climb known as the Coffin Trail from Belle Grange to Hawkshead. Water stations are provided - one on the 10k and two on the 16k - and drinking water is also available at the finish; participants are asked to bring their own reusable cup. Dogs are not permitted on the course. Event medical cover and radio communications will be in place. Parking is charged at £5, or free for cars with four or more passengers; camper vans must use the main pay and display car park. Merchandise and food stalls will be available in the event village. Take on the Beyond the Lune Skyline Winter Ultra, a 65 km / 40 mile winter trail loop near Kirkby Lonsdale with 2000 m ascent and seven summits. Self navigate boggy footpaths, enjoy two warm feed stations and a hearty finish.

Beyond the Lune Winter Editions on 20 December offers 5, 10 and 20 km trail runs from Royal Barn in Kirkby Lonsdale with riverside sections and Lune Valley views. Longer routes need self navigation and the event is listed as full.

Take on a classic Lake District fell around Latrigg on a flagged 8 km / 5 miles course with 460 m of climb and stunning views. Starts and finishes at Fitz Park Pavilion, Keswick, and pre entry via SiEntries is required.

Take on Orrest Sun Up in Windermere on Sun 21 Dec 2025, a bracing one mile climb to Orrest Head with stunning Lake District views. Entry on the day from The Phoenix Centre is £5 with donations supporting local community charities.
