Lakeland Trails Hawkshead
Lakeland Trails in Hawkshead is a trail running event that starts and finishes at Hawkshead Recreation Ground. Routes run on fully marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways, offering panoramic views of Windermere and surrounding fells including the Coniston Hills and the Langdales. All routes include the mile long Coffin Trail climb, which rises from Belle Grange through woods to the Guide Posts before a steep rocky descent back toward Hawkshead. Underfoot conditions are generally good for those used to off road running; some descents are steep and rocky and short sections of tarmac are used.
Event distances:
- 10K Hawkshead Trail Run; minimum age 16; one water station.
- 16K Hawkshead Trail Race and Challenge; minimum age 18; two water stations.
Courses have time limits and prize eligibility differs between the Race and Challenge starts. Marshals and signage are provided along the course. Competitors must carry their own water or a reusable cup because shared single use cups are not provided at water stations. Dogs are not permitted on the course. Over ear and in ear headphones are prohibited though bone conduction devices are allowed. Advanced Life Support medics and radio communications are in place; runners who retire must report to an event marshal.
Practical arrangements include on site registration and baggage storage at the main marquee, two village car parks with an all day fee or free parking for vehicles with four or more occupants, camper vans directed to the main pay and display car park, an event village with traders and food stalls, children’s fun trails run on the day, and live commentary plus prizegiving.
