Hawkshead (Lakeland Trails)

This is a trail running event based at Hawkshead Recreation Ground at the southern end of Hawkshead village. Routes are fully marked and marshalled and start and finish at the recreation ground.

The event features off-road trails with short sections of tarmac, varied terrain and steep, rocky descents. Courses take in panoramic views of Windermere, the Coniston Hills, the Langdales and many Lakeland fells. All routes include the mile long near-vertical Coffin Trail climb. Underfoot conditions are generally good for those used to off-road running, but some sections can be muddy or tricky.

Distances

  • 10K trail run
  • 16K trail race and challenge

There are water stations on course and drinking water at the finish; participants are asked to carry their own water or bring a reusable cup. Race numbers are collected at the event marquee on race day and must be attached horizontally so timing chips read correctly. The finish is under the Inov8 gantry.

Practical details include no vehicle access onto the recreation ground, event parking fields a short walk from the venue, and the possibility of a park and ride if parking fields cannot be used. Dogs are not permitted on the course or in the event venue. Medical cover and radio communications are provided and volunteers staff the route and facilities.

A small event village offers local food stalls, specialist retail and event merchandise. Children's fun trails run on the day with a finisher medal for participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
