HAROC (Hanging Rock Challenge)
HAROC is a trail running event at Hanging Rock State Park in Danbury, North Carolina, organized by Tanawha Adventures. The event offers two distances and takes place in winter, with a backup date listed for February 14 in case of significant ice or snow. Registration closes on Wed, Dec 2 at 11:59 PM ET.
The courses use predominantly trail terrain with short sections of pavement. Trails are described as technical, with rocky and rooty sections, notable elevation changes, and natural features such as boulders, cliffs, and waterfalls. Aid stations are provided on both distances.
Distances
- 50k (approx 30.6 miles, ~5,100 ft elevation gain, 4 aid stations)
- 25k (approx 15.8 miles, ~2,800 ft elevation gain, 2 aid stations)
Time limits are specified for each distance. The event emphasizes trail navigation and sustained climbing and descending across mostly non paved surfaces. The organizer notes conservation as part of its mission and designs events to connect runners with the park landscape. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
