Hankley Common 10km

This is a guided trail run of 10km that starts and finishes at Hankley Common Lower Car Park, Elstead, Surrey. Events are held as sunset runs in the lighter months and as night runs in the darker months. A car park is available at the meeting point.

Route and notable features

The route visits an area known as the Lion's Mouth, where a reinforced concrete replica of a section of the Atlantic Wall was built in 1943 as a training aid. The common is an active MOD training area and has been used as a filming location for multiple movies and TV shows, including James Bond films and an Avengers film. The course follows trails with varied views throughout.

Participation and logistics

The event is run as a group rather than a race. Participants should be able to maintain an average pace of 10 min/miles | 6 min/km on trail for prolonged periods. A full kit list will be provided; Silva head torches and Salomon trail shoes are available to trial. The guide is described as an experienced trail and ultra runner, coach and brand ambassador. Events have an advertised cost of £16 per person and ticketing information indicates some dates are currently sold out. Hankley Common is accessed by car just off the A3. If cancelled due to COVID-19, participants are offered a refund or transfer. Free alcohol-free beer may be available at the end of the run, subject to availability.
